27 August 2024 – planning permission for first floor side extension granted – WA/2024/01248

In the second application on this pretty end-of-terrace house, Waverley Borough Council granted planning permission for a first floor extension to the rear.  Constrained by the size of the house, the family can only access the bathroom by going through one of the bedrooms.  The brief was to design an extension to enlarge the first floor accommodation; by doing this, the bathroom could then be accessed from a landing area.

Archetype Central designed the extension, reconfigured the upstairs space and produced the application package for submission to Waverley.  In terms of the design, we had to create enough space for a landing from which a bathroom would lead.  For this, we needed to think about how best to enlarge this home.  We opted to extend at the rear to preserve the road’s gorgeous rural character and minimise any visual impact.  Additionally, we reconfigured the layout to relocate the second bedroom need to the rear of the house.  Externally, we specified matching materials to ensure a seamless integration of old with new.  As a result, our clients will now have a beautiful new home…. without having to move house! We call that a win!
