Hi there! We’re Archetype Central – a friendly, down-to-earth architectural practice founded by Richard Smith, a dad, dog-lover and architectural designer with over 20 years of hands-on experience in creating beautiful, thoughtful spaces for people to live and work in.

Based in the South East of England but working across the country, we’ve helped bring everything from cozy home extensions to exciting new builds to life. Whether you’re dreaming of a bigger kitchen, a home office with more light, or building your forever home from scratch, we’re here to help make it happen.

Richard’s journey has taken him through a range of architectural practices, big and small, across England and Wales. Along the way, he’s picked up a deep understanding of how great design can shape the way we live. That knowledge, plus a lot of hard work (and the occasional tail wag from his loyal dog), is what built Archetype Central into the passionate, people-focused practice it is today.

We know that starting a building project can feel a bit overwhelming, but we believe it should also be exciting. That’s why we work closely with you from the very beginning – listening carefully, understanding your vision, and helping you every step of the way. To us, no project is too small, and every space has the potential to be something special.

Sketch schemes produced according to your design brief and requirements.

Building Regulations Applications

Construction drawings produced in accordance with current building regulations.
Application for building regulations approval submitted to local authority under a full plans application or a building notice (non-complex projects only).
Structural information and calculations provided by structural engineer.
Liaison with local authority to ensure building regulations approval.

Tender Packages

Services layouts, joist layouts, specification produced as a package.
Contractors sourced and package distributed for estimates.

Planning Applications

Detailed planning application package submitted to the local planning authority in accordance with your chosen design scheme.
Negotiation with the local planning authority throughout the course of planning application determination period.
Design and access statements and planning statements produced, where necessary, at a professional level.
