We’ve previously mentioned that we submitted planning application (24/P/01683).  This was for an extension in the Green Belt to a pretty house in Gomshall.  It was a really satisfying project as we designed a replacement to a really ramshackle arrangement to the rear of the house.  The house is not only in the Green Belt.  It is located within the Surrey Hills National Landscape (formerly Area of Natural Beauty) and an Area of Great Landscape Value.  We had to get it the design just right – and we did just that!

As well as being an extension in the Green Belt, we had to contend with other landscape designations.  These designations, ultimately, impact on way we designed it.  There are various different landscape designations.  The National Landscape (AONB) gives us one of the most sensitive landscape designations of all.  These are statutorily protected and any development must, as a minimum, conserve their scenic beauty.  We therefore took great care in ensuring that the extension assimilates with both the host dwelling and also the surrounding countryside.
